A Valuable Learning Experience At My Visit To LASU Fish Farm

👉As part of my Industrial Training (IT) program, I, along with my colleagues, embarked on a visit to the Lagos State University (LASU) Fish Farm. Our journey began with an unexpected challenge - a water shortage at our residence (D' Prof Resort). We quickly adapted and fetched water, ensuring we were prepared for the day ahead.

👉Under the guidance of our supervisor, Emeritus Prof. Martins, we navigated to the LASU Fish Farm. Upon arrival, we were warmly received by the farm manager, who offered us seats and hospitality, including kolanuts.🌝

👉The tour of the farm was enlightening, showcasing various pond types:

-- Earthen ponds

- Fiberglass ponds (marine blue color)

- Tarpaulin ponds

- Lined seepage dug-out earthen ponds

👉We observed diverse fish species, including those used for aquarium construction.

A highlight was witnessing the construction of a fiberglass pond with flow-through systems. We also saw goldfish and species from the Cichlidae family.

👉In addition to the farm tour, we received informative lectures on:

-👍Feed formulation and manufacturing for different weight categories (15kg and above) tailored to various fish stages.

👍Strategic substitution of feed ingredients based on market availability and cost.

🤞These sessions provided me invaluable insights into optimizing fish nutrition and managing costs effectively.

🤞_Key Takeaways:_💯

1. Adaptability is crucial in overcoming unexpected challenges.
